Introduction
The reported triangular object over Zamora’s police station is one of the city’s most memorable modern UFO stories, but it is better read as a witness-interview case than as an official police incident. The core claim is simple: in 2003, a Zamora man identified as Luismi said that he and a friend saw a low, silent, triangular object with flashing red and green lights above the police station in Zamora city. The account was later published by local UFO researcher Nando Domínguez in 2024, not as a police file, radar case, or court record.[Comunidad Ufológica]ovnispain.comun ovni triangular encima de la comisaria de policia de zamora ano 2003un ovni triangular encima de la comisaria de policia de zamora ano 2003

That distinction matters. The location sounds dramatic because the reported object was said to be over a police building, but the available public evidence does not show that police officers officially recorded, investigated, or verified the sighting. The case belongs to Zamora’s broader witness-led UFO archive: interesting, locally distinctive, but thin by hard-evidence standards. Zamora News later included it among notable provincial reports, while also placing it in a wider pattern of Zamora sightings publicised through Domínguez’s work.[Zamora News]zamoranews.comZamora News El Fenómeno OVNI en Zamora, la historia de sus avistamientosZamora News El Fenómeno OVNI en Zamora, la historia de sus avistamientos
The triangular object report
The Zamora city triangle report appears in public form through OVNI Spain, the website connected with Nando Domínguez’s local UFO work. The post, published on 19 April 2024, describes an interview with “Luismi”, a Zamora resident who said that in 2003 he and a friend saw an unidentified triangular object above the police station. The details given in the article are limited but specific: triangular shape, flashing red and green lights, low altitude, and no sound.[Comunidad Ufológica]ovnispain.comun ovni triangular encima de la comisaria de policia de zamora ano 2003un ovni triangular encima de la comisaria de policia de zamora ano 2003
Those details are exactly what make the case memorable. A silent triangle over an urban landmark is easy to picture, and coloured flashing lights give the story a concrete visual hook. It also fits a familiar modern UFO category: night-time “triangle” reports, often described as dark or structured objects marked out by lights rather than clearly seen physical surfaces. That familiarity cuts both ways. It makes the story recognisable within UFO culture, but it also means the description overlaps with ordinary aerial-light misidentifications.
The key weakness is that the public record does not currently provide the basics needed for a strong reconstruction. The exact date, clock time, duration, viewing direction, weather, flight path, angular size, and whether other independent witnesses came forward are not stated in the available article. There is also no published photograph, video, radar trace, air-traffic record, police incident log, or contemporaneous local newspaper clipping attached to the claim. The case therefore rests mainly on a later interview account.
That does not make the witness claim worthless. Witness interviews can preserve local history, especially in a province where many reported cases survive through memory, press cuttings, and later collection. But it does set a clear evidential ceiling. Without contemporaneous documentation or independent corroboration, the strongest fair conclusion is that something was reported, not that an extraordinary craft was established.
Why the police-station setting sounds stronger than it is
The phrase “over the police station” can easily make the case sound as though it was a police-confirmed sighting. The available evidence does not support that jump. The official Spanish government directory lists the Comisaría Provincial de Zamora as a Ministry of the Interior police unit at Avenida Requejo 12, confirming that the location is a real police facility in the city.[Administracion]administracion.gob.esAdministracion- Directorio y organigramasAdministracion- Directorio y organigramas But a sighting near or above a police building is not the same thing as a sighting made, logged, or investigated by police.
This distinction is important for readers comparing Zamora’s witness-led cases with more formal UFO records. Spain’s declassified Ministry of Defence UFO collection contains 80 files and around 1,900 pages concerning strange aerial phenomena in Spanish airspace in which Air Force personnel or material were involved in some way.[Biblioteca Virtual de Defensa]bibliotecavirtual.defensa.gob.esOpen source on gob.es. The 2003 Zamora police-station triangle, as publicly presented, does not appear as one of those military-style cases and does not carry the same evidential weight as an aviation-linked file.
The dramatic setting may also bias memory and retelling. A strange light over an anonymous street is one kind of story; a strange triangular object over the police station is much more memorable. That landmark gives the account local texture, but it should not be treated as built-in verification. The real question is not whether the police station existed or whether the witness located the object there. The question is whether the report was supported by multiple independent observations, official records, or recoverable data. On the public evidence available, that support is not yet visible.
There is another useful caution. Zamora’s broader UFO profile has been shaped by Domínguez’s archival and interview work. The Public Library of Zamora described his book as collecting newspaper reports about UFO encounters in the province from the 1950s to 2021, recovering stories that had remained in old local press pages.[Bibliotecas de Castilla y León]bibliotecas.jcyl.esOpen source on jcyl.es. That is valuable cultural and historical work, but it is not the same as a forensic investigation of one 2003 urban sighting.
What would count as stronger evidence
A good evidence test for this case begins by separating “interesting testimony” from “case-strengthening documentation”. The Zamora triangle has the first; it has not yet shown much of the second in public sources.
The most useful additions would be:
- A precise time and date. Without them, it is hard to compare the sighting with aircraft movements, bright astronomical objects, weather conditions, public events, or other witness reports.
- Independent witnesses. The account mentions Luismi and a friend, but a stronger case would include separately interviewed witnesses who did not shape their memories together.
- A contemporaneous record. A local press item, police call log, diary entry, radio mention, or dated written report from 2003 would reduce the risk of memory drift.
- Direction and motion. Knowing whether the object hovered, crossed the sky, approached, receded, or changed direction would help distinguish between aircraft, distant lights, balloons, and genuinely anomalous behaviour.
- Angular size and duration. “Low” and “large” can be misleading in night-sky sightings because distance is hard to judge without reference points.
This is not setting an impossibly sceptical standard. It is the normal difference between a story that is worth recording and a case that is difficult to explain. Modern official UAP investigators repeatedly stress the same problem in different language: many reports remain hard to resolve when timely sensor data and precise contextual information are missing. AARO, the US government’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, has resolved many cases as ordinary objects such as balloons, birds, drones, satellites and aircraft, while noting that only a small percentage require deeper anomaly-focused analysis.[U.S. Department of War]war.govDOD Examining Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena > U.S. Department of War > Defense Department News | U.S. Department of War…(https://www.war.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/3965403/dod-examining-unidentified-anomalous-phenomena/)
The Zamora case is not an AARO case and should not be judged as though it had military sensor evidence. But the principle applies. A witness description alone can raise a question; it rarely answers it.
Ordinary explanations to test first
The first mundane explanation to test is aircraft lighting. The reported red and green flashing lights are not a trivial detail: red and green are standard aviation position-light colours. US federal aviation rules, for example, specify forward position lights with red on the left side and green on the right side, plus a rear white position light; they also require anti-collision lighting systems on aircraft.[eCFR]ecfr.gov14 CFR Part 25 Subpart F - Lights (FAR Part 25 Subpart F - ECFR0cb7970b9d1fd5f)… If a conventional aircraft is seen at night from an unusual angle, its lights can appear to define a shape more strongly than the body of the aircraft itself.
That does not automatically solve the Zamora report. The witness account says the object was triangular, low and silent. A nearby aircraft should usually produce some sound, though urban noise, wind direction, distance, engine type, and the observer’s attention can all affect whether sound is noticed. The lack of a published time, direction, duration and trajectory prevents a serious aircraft check.
A second possibility is a formation or pattern of lights being interpreted as a solid object. Human perception often connects separated lights into a single outline, especially at night when there is little visible surface detail. Three lights can become a “triangle” in memory, particularly if they move together or appear fixed relative to one another. This is one of the central risks in many triangle reports: the shape may be inferred from lights, not directly seen as a physical craft.
A third possibility is a balloon or lighter-than-air object carrying lights, although the red-green flashing detail makes a simple balloon less obvious than an aircraft-light explanation. Official UAP case-resolution pages show why balloons remain part of the ordinary checklist: AARO has assessed multiple recorded UAP images as balloons where morphology and drift behaviour matched lighter-than-air objects.[AARO]aaro.milOfficial UAP ImageryAARO UAP Imagery… For the Zamora report, though, there is no weather-linked motion data, no video, and no object morphology beyond the witness description.
A fourth possibility is a memory-strengthened urban sighting. The 2003 event was publicly described in 2024, which means the available article represents a report surfaced many years after the claimed observation. Long gaps do not prove a witness is wrong, but they increase the need for dated corroboration. Details such as colour, height, silence and exact position can become sharper in retelling even when the original perception was brief or ambiguous.
How it fits Zamora’s UFO history
The Zamora police-station triangle matters less as a stand-alone “proof” case than as a useful test of how Zamora’s UFO archive should be read. It is vivid, local and easy to remember, but it is not currently a documented official incident. That makes it typical of the province’s modern public UFO record: strong on testimony and local identity, weak on instruments and formal investigation.
It also connects naturally with other Zamora triangle claims. OVNI Spain’s index places the 2003 police-station report alongside a separate post about a triangular object over the River Duero in the 1980s, and the 2003 article itself says similar objects had reportedly been seen in Zamora before.[Comunidad Ufológica]ovnispain.comComunidad Ufológica Todos los Post del Blog – Comunidad UfológicaComunidad Ufológica Todos los Post del Blog – Comunidad Ufológica This may point to a local pattern, but it may also show how one recognisable UFO form becomes a category into which different night-light experiences are sorted.
That is why “case family” is the right level of granularity. The 2003 sighting should not be isolated from Zamora’s other triangle reports, but neither should the reports be merged into a single phenomenon without careful checking. A cluster only becomes evidentially stronger when the accounts are independent, dated, consistent in important details, and resistant to ordinary explanations. If they are all late interviews with incomplete observing data, they are culturally interesting but evidentially fragile.
The balanced reading is therefore cautious. The reported sighting over Zamora’s police station is a notable local UFO story because of its urban setting, triangular form and named witness-interview route into the public record. Its main doubt is equally clear: the public evidence does not yet show contemporaneous documentation, official police involvement, aviation checks, photographs, radar, or independent corroboration beyond the witness pair. In Zamora’s UFO history, it remains an unresolved but weakly documented witness case, not a confirmed extraordinary event.
